Wrinkle treatments with botulinum toxin

Botulinum toxin – Botox in short – has been in use for the treatment of mimic wrinkles and for treating wrinkles since the early 1990s. Applications of Botox around the mouth, forehead and eyes will make crow’s feet, furrows and the much-feared frown line disappear temporarily. Nowadays, a range of medical products is available, such as Vistabel, Dysport and Belotero, which all contain botulinum toxin as active ingredient.

The preparation helps shape a smoother complexion by blocking the activity of the nerve cells in the skin of the face, thereby preventing nerve impulses from being transmitted to the facial muscles. As a result, muscle activity in the facial area is reduced for the duration of the effect which leads to a visible smoothing effect of wrinkles. Experience has shown that the effect of the neurotoxin will decline after six months at the latest.

Treatment with botulinum toxin is quick and simple. A single session barely takes longer than a visit to the hairdresser. And we perform every procedure with the utmost diligence. As long as wrinkle injections are repeated every six to twelve months, the body will completely break down the substance in between sessions.

Botox can be used for a number of applications beyond the treatment of wrinkles. For example, it may help with bruxism, better known to most people as cumbersome teeth grinding while sleeping. Not only does bruxism wear down the teeth, it may also cause damages to the jaw and the head muscles. A Botox injection relaxes jaw muscles and allows for a remission of the condition. Despite the fact that the cause of bruxism is not addressed, at least teeth and jaw are being protected.Botox has also been used successfully in case of “gummy smiles” which describes the condition of an unbalanced visual ratio between teeth and gums when laughing or smiling. Those affected by it often do not feel comfortable in their skin and around others. Botox can improve this ratio to remove the gummy smile. An injection causes the muscles which pull up the upper lip to weaken, so that a smile will reveal less of the gums.Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) is extremely unpleasant for those affected by it. A therapy using botulinum toxin can eliminate the production of sweat in armpits, in the palms of the hands and on the soles of feet – or at least significantly reduce it. For this purpose, Botox is punctually injected into the area afflicted by excessive sweating, flat under the skin like a wheal. The effect will set in after approx. 5-7 days. After about 6-9 months, the effects will slowly disappear again, making repeat treatments recommendable. The introduction of botulinum toxin for the reduction of excessive sweating only takes a few minutes; local anesthesia is not required. You will be able to work on the same day again.
